Refugee Week is an umbrella festival, with hundreds of independently organised events taking place across the UK every year. To upload your Refugee Week event, go to Submit Event. For more information about celebrations in Scotland and Wales, visit the websites of the Scottish Refugee Council and Welsh Refugee Council. Refugee Week is a growing international festival, also celebrated in Australia and France.

Thirty Six pounds, Ninety Five pence: Artworks by contemporary migrant artists - Online exhibition Contrary to common belief, asylum seekers are not allowed to work and receive just £36.95 a week in vouchers to live on. This group of artists has suffered the untold horrors of political violence and war, having lost family and friends, their cultures, languages, homes and identities. They now face the challenges of building a new life in an often hostile environment. The paintings in this exhibition reflect the resilience and sensitivity of the migrant’s story: one of loss and hope.

SLAMATHON In celebration of Refugee Week 2017, Bearwood Action for Refugees are hosting SLAMATHON, an exciting afternoon of spoken word and a whole lot more, raising funds for Aegean Solidarity Network, supporting refugees in transit. Audiences can watch as poets young and old battle it out for the ultimate SLAMATHON title, plus the chance to participate in workshops to create or polish up your own poems. There will also be storytelling, comedy, family activities, a literary inspired auction, a pot luck lunch and so much more besides. Applications from poets of all ages, levels of experiences and written and performed in all languages are welcomed.
