Celebrate the contribution displaced people have made to our society, from film and music to stories and games, with free family activities and crafts.
The event is being co-produced with displaced people who meet at Leicester City of Sanctuary, some of whom will be acting as community curators re-interpreting objects in the World Arts Gallery with their own responses presented as new labels on the exhibition cases for the day.
We are making a new arrivals cookery book with photos of traditional foods, but made here in Leicester by displaced people, and including some of the recipes. Some of the participants will wear traditional dress from their homelands, and there will be performances of poetry and hopefully music and dance.
Three new arrival film makers will be screening and presenting their work in the Lord Mayor’s room throughout the event. We will also have traditional games from countries of origin, refugee stories, and free family craft activities both inside the museum and on Museum Square, where we will be creating bunting and flags representing countries of origin and our hopes for a better world, which will be strung together between the railings and trees.
Free, drop-in event. No need to book.
