On Monday 18th June, sides from around South Yorkshire will be meeting at Oakwell to compete in the One World Cup from 1:30-3:30pm.
The aim of the tournament, which will be run in partnership with Red Cross and the Refugee Council, is to raise awareness of the needs of refugees and help bring different areas of local communities together.
The One World Cup is the latest event which has been organised by Reds in the Community to support refugees and asylum seekers.
RITC has been backing local refugee side ‘African Tigers,’ who were set up by Jaber Abdullah with a couple of friends in 2015 and has since grown astonishingly, now operating two teams.
Reds in the Community is a registered charity delivering community and charitable activities on behalf of Barnsley Football Club. We use the power of football and Barnsley Football Club to engage and improve the lives of local people. Professional football clubs are at the hearts of their communities, not just geographically but more importantly emotionally. They have a unique connection and draw that enables them to reach further and wider than others. This provides a great opportunity and responsibility to make a difference.
