Welcome to SINGA Blabla, where everyone is welcome whatever your background or English level! SINGA’s language cafés bring people together to meet others from the community, exchange ideas and practice English as well as other languages. Some topics and prompts are prepared for each session, but mostly we chat about what crosses our minds, share what we care about and use the practice of speaking in a new language as a way of getting to know each other.
We hope to run these fortnightly for the next few months so do come along on Monday 18th June from 7pm at Rivington Mix for a fun night of coffee, food and conversation!
As part of Refugee Week, it will be the opportunity to contribute to the "20 Simple Acts" campaign which celebrates 20 years of Refugee Week including "Learn a few words in another language".
A few words about SINGA
SINGA (which means 'connect' in Lingala, a Congolese language) brings refugees, newcomers and locals together through the things they love and want to learn and share with others. Alongside SINGA’s Blabla language café, a variety of new activities and projects are being developed within the community.
Whether it’s playing sports or games, making music, arts and crafts, learning languages, discovering cultures or food or the great outdoors or revealing the untold stories of our city, there are an infinite number of ideas for connection that SINGA is helping to make happen. To find out more about SINGA UK and latest updates, visit our Facebook Page and Website!
We freely offer these for unemployed or refugee/asylum seekers though they are open to everyone (there is a suggested donation of £5 for those that can afford it). At this time we cannot support travel costs but this is something we hope to support in the future.
