We are so pleased to be sharing Rainbow Migration’s latest articles in honour of LGBT+ History Month.

Rainbow Migration provides emotional and practical support for lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer and intersex (LGBTQI+) people who are going through the UK’s asylum and immigration system or who are making partnership applications to live in the UK with their partners. For LGBT+ History Month they have put together the following blogs to raise awareness about the issues that LGBTQI+ people face when going through the asylum system.

Here are their latest pieces:

    • Three ways you can make a difference this LGBT+ History Month: This is a piece that describes 3 easy actions that everyone can take to support our No Pride in Detention campaign during LGBT+ History Month. One of the actions is simply to share a video on WhatsApp, find out more!
    • Queer pasts and global futures: An article written by a trans author in Kenya, Arya Jeipea Karijo, who explores the historical acceptance of queerness in various African societies before strict colonial-era laws criminalised same-sex relations or declared trans people to be “unnatural”. Many of these laws and societal attitudes persist today and make queer existence a struggle.
    • The colonial past that shapes the present asylum process for LGBTQI+ people: This educational piece is around the struggles of LGBTIQ+ people seeking asylum having to prove their sexual orientation or gender identity in order to be granted asylum in the UK, and how some of it has been shaped by our colonial past.
    • Celebrating LGBTQI+ solidarity in our No Pride In Detention campaign: This one celebrates the contributions of our detention campaign partner organisations and asks other organisations to join!
