Synopsis:

In Nezouh, 14-year-old Zeina and herfamily are the last to have stayed in their besieged

hometown of Damascus in Syria. A missile rips a giant hole in their home, exposing them to the outsideworld. When a rope is mysteriously lowered into the hole, Zeina gets herfirsttaste of freedom, and an unimaginableworld of possibility opens up for her. As the violence outside escalates,the family is pressured to evacuate, but Mutaz, her father is adamant that they stay,refusing to flee to the uncertain life of a refugee. Faced with a life or death dilemma, Zeina and Hala, her mother, must make the choice whether to stay or leave.

Soudade Kaadan is an award winning Syrian director born in France and raised in Damascus. She was educated in theatre criticism at the Higher Institute of Dramatic Arts in Syria and in filmmaking at the Saint Joseph University in Lebanon. She has directed and produced documentary films for Al Jazeera Documentary Channel, UNDP and UNICEF. She gained international recognition with her debut feature film, “The Day I Lost My Shadow,” which premiered at the Venice Film Festival in 2018 and won the esteemed Lion of the Future Award for Best Debut Film. Her next short fiction film Aziza won the Sundance grand jury prize in 2019. And her second feature film Nezouh won the audience award at the Venice Festival in 2022, making her the only Arab female director to win twice in Venice.
