TILKA: devising movement workshop

TILKA: devising movement workshop

In this workshop, Naqiya Ebrahim (Executive Director, Seenaryo) will lead an exploration of how to devise movement-based performances using your own lived experience. Whether you’re working on your own piece or simply want to explore, join Naqiya to develop your practice in a safe, inclusive and supportive space. You’ll spend time warming up and getting moving, playing with stimulus and learning new techniques for creating narrative through movement.

The exercises are inspired by the participatory approach to theatre developed by Seenaryo, an organisation with whom Naqiya has been working for nearly 10 years. Seenaryo co-creates imaginative, collaborative and powerful theatre with under-served communities in Lebanon, Jordan and Palestine.

About Naqiya Ebrahim: Combining a passion for storytelling and social justice, Naqiya is one of Seenaryo’s Executive Directors and one of the producers of their feature documentary, TILKA (which is being screened as part of the Migration Matters Festival). Naqiya previously worked as Early Years Scriptwriter at now>press>play, Performing Arts Specialist at Artis Education, and Co-Director at Saturday Storytellers with Croydon Council. Naqiya aims to use the arts and play to create a new generation of curious, collaborative, critical thinkers – and has worked towards this goal in London, San Diego, Hong Kong, Lebanon and Jordan.

After the workshop, you can attend the screening of TILKA at Showroom Cinema.
