Moving Beyond Asylum Hotels: Refugee Week Brighton Panel Discussion
As part of the UK Government’s ‘hostile environment’ against people on the move who have come to the UK in search of safety and security are isolated from the rest of society and forced to live in unsuitable hotel accommodation for a year+ whilst they wait for their asylum claim to be processed.
However, it doesn’t have to be this way! In our panel discussion, as part of Refugee Week 2024, we will discuss the reality of life as an asylum seeker, re-imagine the UK asylum system and think about what should happen to help people settle into their new home.
This event accompanies a photography exhibition in Jubilee Library Window Gallery called ‘In Limbo’ that is spotlighting the real-life experiences of people seeking asylum living in hotel accommodation in Brighton and Hove. The exhibition is taking place 17-22 June.
Speakers include representatives from local organisations, activists and people with lived experience of migration and living in asylum hotels.
