We’re thrilled to share that Counterpoints Arts has commissioned acclaimed photographer Misan Harriman to capture a series of eight artistic and cultural figures for Refugee Week 2021.

Photographer Misan Harriman is known for his striking portraits of public figures, among them the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, as well as his recent photographs of Black Lives Matter protestors, which earned him the cover of Vogue’s ‘Activism’ issue in September 2020. On 20 May it was announced that Harriman has been appointed Chair of the Southbank Centre, Britain’s largest arts centre.

The series will be displayed at the Victoria and Albert Museum for Refugee Week, a festival celebrating the contributions of refugees, 14-20 June.

Carrying the theme ‘We Cannot Walk Alone’, the 2021 festival invites us to walk alongside those who are making the hardest journeys and come together to create a kinder and more just world.

The figures, who range from children’s author Michael Rosen to aspiring pilot and UNHCR Goodwill Ambassador Maya Ghazal, are people who have chosen to ‘walk alongside others’ in a range of creative ways, showing that we all have a role to play in creating a world where everyone is welcomed, included and valued.
