As part of Refugee Week Picturehouse Cinemas are holding two schools screenings of the award winning documentary A Syrian Love Story. These screenings will be accompanied by a talk and Q&A with Eiad, himself a refugee from Syria.

Filmed over 5 years, A Syrian Love Story is an intimate and moving documentary which takes us into the lives of Amer, Raghda and their family as they flee Syria and struggle to adapt to a new life in France.

Eiad is 29 years old and left Syria in 2012, arriving in the UK in December 2014. He qualified as a dentist in Syria but upon graduation was asked to join military service – this is when he decided to flee. His journey was 2 years, via Egypt, across the Mediterranean, across Europe and finally to the UK via lorry. He is now working in Starbucks on the weekends and sharing his story in schools. Eiad will talk about his own experiences and is happy to answer any questions students have.

This event is a unique opportunity to give your students insight into the emotional strain and physical hardships that people endure in getting to Europe but also in adapting to a new life once they arrive. It will also improve understanding of the reasons people have had to flee Syria and seek refuge in Europe.
