In light of the upcoming “Refugee Week,” U Matter is organising a gathering for our service users and partner charities on the 30th of June, from 10:30 am to 2:30 pm at the Waterloo Action Centre, Rear Hall. This year’s theme for Refugee Week is compassion, and we aim to embody this by offering a day of activities, allowing individuals to take a much-needed break, pause, breathe, and recharge. During this event, we plan to empower attendees through workshops on recognizing and preventing abuse, stress reduction techniques, and information about the asylum and refugee process. One of the main workshops will focus on empowerment self-defense, teaching various skills to aid in recognizing, preventing, and protecting oneself from abuse. This event includes a kid’s play corner and serves warm drinks and baked goods. There will be in-kind donations as well as a raffle taking place at 12:30pm.
