Refugee Voices: The Five Stages of Moria

World Refugee Day is a day designed to honour and celebrate the resilience of refugees worldwide. Author and Humanitarian Worker, Elika Ansari will be in conversation with New Citizens’ Gateway Youth volunteer, Reza Nourmand to discuss her book, ‘The Five Stages of Moria: ‘The Infamous Refugee Camp.

The book is a work of autobiographical fiction relating a complex, multi-faceted and very psychological refugee experience that the author came across first-hand while working in the infamous refugee camp that burned down in September 2020.

About the author

Elika Ansari is a published writer, refugee youth worker, performer, yoga instructor, and two-time graduate of St Andrews University, Scotland. While she has lived in 10 countries throughout her life, Elika is currently based in London, where she dedicates her time to writing books and working with young refugees and asylum seekers. Elika’s debut middle-grade fantasy novel about the effects of climate change on small animals, ‘Seacity Rising: A Tale of Unwatery Adventures’ was published on 6 June 2019 by Black Rose Writing. The book was taught in school curriculums in the U.K. and was a finalist in the Indies Today Award 2019.

 

About the interviewer

Reza Nourmand is a Software Developer and Volunteer Refugee Youth Worker at New Citizens’ Gateway, a charity dedicated to offering integrational support to refugees and asylum seekers in London. He will be chairing the event with the author of ‘The Five Stages of Moria: ‘The Worst Refugee Camp on Earth”.
