Access Arts Exhibition with The Old Bus Depot and Sugar Stealers

Community Art Exhibition

Refugee Roots will showcase a collection of art produced by refugees in this Access Arts project. Sugar Stealers will also be exhibiting. Live performances and refreshments.

Art for Compassion

Sugar Stealers are working with Refugee Roots to create an exhibition to celebrate Refugee week 25th anniversary. The theme for this year is ‘COMPASSION’ and both organizations have been working in Fishergate Point Centre for the Arts to co-design a collaborative exhibition that demonstrates how Arts and Culture can help widen our circles of compassion.

Knitwear artist April McArthy has been busy knitting squares for our Sugar Stealers patchwork blanket that we will use as prop to illustrate ‘COMPASSION’. We will be employing a filmmaker and a photographer to work with members of Sugar Stealers and Refugee Roots to use the blanket in as many creative ways as possible.

The ‘COMPASSION’ exhibition will consist of paintings, prints, poetry textiles all created by each group. It will be a very exciting opportunity to share the warmth, trust and compassion that is the Sugar Stealers brand at the Old Bus Depot.

The Sugar Stealers is an organization which started in 2019 with the purpose of breaking down barriers that affect deprived communities in order to encourage healing and progression. Currently they are building a safe space for all women & non-binary people to explore positive wellbeing while participating in creative activities.
