To mark Refugee Week 2023 Extern, in association with Belfast City Council, will be hosting a screening of the IFTA-winning Irish film Aisha. Please note: This event will be for an invited audience and tickets are not on general sale.

This year’s theme of ‘Compassion’ runs through this emotional and gritty docudrama which follows Aisha, a young Nigerian asylum seeker caught up in the bureaucracy of Ireland’s immigration system after fleeing her home country. Through Aisha’s story, this moving story brings humanity and empathy to the fore at a time when we are becoming increasingly aware of the challenges faced by many people seeking refuge.

The director – who collected awards for Best Director and Best Script at the recent Irish Film and Television Awards – will also join a specially invited panel afterwards to discuss the issues examined in the film.
