Creative Agency: An exhibition of artwork created by young asylum seekers, refugees and migrants at the Glucksman museum
Creative Agency is a programme that empowers young asylum seekers, refugees and migrants to participate in imaginative projects that enable them to present their voices and views in the public realm. This exhibition presents a small selection of artworks created by the programme participants since its inception in 2015. The Glucksman programme enables young asylum seekers to work with artists and curators over an extended series of workshops; offers a positive and creative experience to a marginalized community; and provides the resources and expertise that will allow the group to develop artworks for public display.
This exhibition presents artwork from a variety of Creative Agency projects including Once Upon a Place (2015) a project that invited young children to create artworks that responded to their sense of place both imaginative and real; Moving Still (2018) enabled teenagers to explore improvisation, movement and individuality through photography and presented their creations on billboards; Change the Beat! (2019) looked at the importance of music in teenage years to support and enrich the development of a positive self-identity as well as providing confidence, motivation and a sense of belonging and saw teenagers create original prints that were exhibition at venues across the city; My Generation (2020) encouraged teenagers to voice their views on contemporary society and call for positive action through large scale public artworks in Cork city centre; and In Colour (2022) supported teenagers to create a flag of solidarity which was raised over Cork City Hall.
The exhibition runs in the Glucksman Foyer Exhibition Space from Tuesday 20 June to Sunday 25 June.
Free. All welcome.
The Glucksman is open Tuesdays to Saturdays 10am – 5pm and Sundays 2-5pm.
