The Ideas into Action Demo Day on Tuesday 18th June celebrates the launch of over 15 refugee-led social enterprises and non-profits. Join fellow purpose-driven professionals for an evening of pitches and networking with VCSE leaders. Result CICTERN and Social Enterprise UK are excited to host this event with generous support from TNLCF.

What to expect

An evening of inspiration and connection as over 15 refugee founders launch their nonprofit or social enterprise. Hear live pitches from refugee-led organisations driving positive impact in their communities, share your insightful feedback, and support their next steps as early-stage social ventures.

This is an opportunity to make meaningful connections and fund / partner with / volunteer with / raise awareness of each change-making organisation.

The lineup

When signing up, you will have the option to choose the impact area you will hear pitches from on the day. Below are the incredible organisations which will be present in each impact theme – please select the theme which feels most relevant to you and your area of work.

🛍️ Ethical Products & Business Services

Waheedullah Farooqi Zargar | Afghanpure, championing Afghan heritage and empowering female artisans. They specialise in handmade rugs, kilims, cushion covers, bags, and jewelry sourced directly from Afghan villages, with over 50% crafted by women.

Alaa Alsewid | Social By Design, a consultancy dedicated to promoting sustainable development and social impact. Beyond providing consultancy services Social By Design also focuses on training refugees and youth in job-ready skills, offering language support to enhance employability.

Kamal Nasr | Green Future Waste Management, an organisation dedicated to help reduce e-waste and extend the lifespan of electronic devices by refurbishing unused devices from institutions, such as schools, hospitals, and universities, and selling them to consumers.

Muhammad Anwar Virk | Skills Builder Network, an organization that aims to empower refugees and underserved communities deprived locals through digital skills and community integration. Their E-commerce Platform and Digital Empowerment Program offer workshops in business ethics, language, and cultural understanding.

Mehdi Shali | Upcy, an online platform for sustainable and eco-friendly lifestyle, which has social media and A marketplace.

🖌️ Art & Community

Tibebu Tekle | ENAT Pre-School Education Project, a project providing essential preschool services to underserved communities in Ethiopia.

Olena Tertyshnyk | Growth Place, an innovative space where individuals hone their soft skills through tailored training sessions, complete with psychological analysis and professional feedback.

Chido Zvobgo | Family4sure CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to reducing loneliness and social isolation within the Black ethnic minority community in the UK – organising workshops and community events with cultural sensitivity across all its services. Family4sure CIC also provides Winter Warmth Essentials and Food support during festive seasons, ensuring individuals and families have access to essential resources in colder months.

Mariia Bezusa | Yesense CIC, an art healing social enterprise improving emotional wellbeing and supporting recovery from trauma through creativity.

Yuliia Zhdanova | Blue and Yellow Cup CIC, a coffee shop driven by a powerful mission: to transform the lives of Ukrainian refugees in the UK. With a heart for community, Yuliia aims to host events and language clubs, create a space where refugees can shed loneliness and embrace connection.

Olga Archybasova Olchi Coffee, a coffee roastery which specialises in masterclasses to train sensory receptors.

🗣️ Education, Training & Advocacy

Mohamed Suliman Haroon | Definite, a training, coaching and mentoring organisation for young refugees and asylum seekers.

Zeinab Deria | Reviving Links CIC, a social enterprise dedicated to preserving cultural heritage, promoting language learning, nurturing traditional practices, as well as providing services which address isolation, wellbeing and community connections.

Mohamed Fouad Al-Kadi | Shift-up, a lived-experience-led organisation dedicated to shifting the power to young people through training and programmes for organisations and young people.

Valerie Lolomari | Women of Grace UK, a survivor-led organisation, raising awareness and breaking the silence and stigma about FGM.

Ine Egeba Duke | EmpowerHer Life, an advocacy organisation raising awareness and breaking the stigma and silence on female reproductive heath.

Hanna Zamostna | Step To Empower CIC,a social enterprise offering vital support to Ukrainian refugee women in the UK. Through individual and group psychotherapy sessions, as well as comprehensive training courses, Hanna helps these women build confidence, resilience, and integration skills.

Chantelle Matai | Imbokodo, a dance troupe using South African dance to heal trauma.

About Ideas into Action

Ideas into Action is a free social start-up incubation programme for social entrepreneurs from a refugee background. Over 7 months, the programme delivers interactive workshops, tailored social start-up support and expert 1:1 coaching. The Demo Day celebrates the moment they launch their social start-ups and solutions into the eco-system, recognising the months of hard work and commitment that has led to each new venture.

Ideas into Action is delivered by Result CIC, TERN – The Entrepreneurial Refugee Network and Social Enterprise UK, funded by The National Lottery Community Fund. This is the third edition of the programme, which piloted in 2022.
