Jesse Jones in conversation with Lawrence Abu Hamdan
Coinciding with the opening of Jesse Jones’ The Tower and Lawrence Abu Hamdan’s 45th Parallel, the artists will come together for the first time to discuss their practices.
Jesse Jones works across platform – in film installation, performance and sculpture. Using a form of expanded cinema she explores magical counter-narratives to the state, drawn from suppressed archetypes and myth, and raises the volume on the troubling histories of religious and state oppression of women. Lawrence Abu Hamdan is a Private Ear, listening to, with and on behalf of people affected by corporate, state, and environmental violence. Abu Hamdan’s work has been presented in the form of forensic reports, lectures and live performances, films and exhibitions all over the world.
The talk will be followed by the opening reception of Jesse Jones’ The Tower, Lawrence Abu Hamdan’s 45th Parallel and Hephzibah Israel’s intervention at Talbot Rice Gallery at 6pm.
