An Art and Music event, ‘Long Roads Home’ is a collaboration between two West Wales artists, Carrie Mackinnon and Lawrence Mathias, and local school children. We explore themes of journeys, home and refuge and celebrate what ‘Home’ means to our young people, some of whom have lived experience of displacement. Carrie and Lawrence draw on their own experiences of volunteering with displaced people, reflected in their video, paintings, texts and installation work. Carrie’s work mostly focuses on refugee and survivor testimonies and getting their words out through illustration and film. Lawrence’s work is often more light-hearted and satirical, but inspired by very current affairs. Music from a variety of local performers is planned throughout the weekend, including a Pembrokeshire-based Ukrainian choir. Visitors are welcome to join us, and join in.
