Migrant Political Participation Workshop

Migrant Political Participation Workshop

Did you know that all residents in Ireland can register to vote & run in local elections – including asylum seekers, refugees and international students? Local elections will take place in May 2024.

This workshop is part of a number of events across Co Wexford to celebrate the first ever Irish Refugee week taking place from the 19-25 June. Refugee week is a festival where we celebrate compassion and connection, and everyone is welcome.

This training is aimed at migrants living in Co Wexford, Ireland who are interested in becoming involved in Irish politics and decision making, up to and including participating in elections. This training empowers migrants with the knowledge of how the various political systems in Ireland work and how to make the most of their voting rights. It also lays the foundation for becoming more civically active in Irish society, whether it’s campaigning for causes that are important to you or taking part in elections.

The training is also useful to any services or civic society groups working to engage with migrants in the political process as it provides a full overview of voting rights based on immigration status.

Tea & coffee served from 10.30am with a light lunch served after the workshop. This is a free event for migrants living in Co Wexford
