SolidariTee ‘Our Home’ Art Exhibition

SolidariTee ‘Our Home’ Art Exhibition

The exhibition will be borrowing Refugee Week UK’s 2024 theme, ‘Our Home’, as we want this to be a space that is in solidarity with, and acts as a home for, those part of the refugee and displaced community to share their artwork, cultures, journeys, and experiences. This art exhibition seeks to platform a diversity of backgrounds and experiences through the medium of art, emphasising the creative space as an important way through which the refugee and displaced journey can be articulated. The gallery will be displaying the wonderful and inspiring artwork by: Helia López, Nasrin Parvaz, Iraqi Women Art War, and Oxford Refugee Health Initiative.

The art exhibition will be held in Oxford, at Fusion Arts Gallery, between Friday 26th April to Saturday 27th April from 10am-7pm, with a launch taking place on Friday 26th April, from 7:30pm-9:30pm. During the launch, there will be live music, refreshments, and chance for artists to speak about their artwork, inspirations, and experiences!

To provide a brief context of the organisation who is hosting this event, SolidariTee – we are a student-led charity, who not only fundraises to provide legal and psychological aid to refugees and asylum seekers in Greece, but we also host events which raise awareness around lived experience, the asylum-seeking process, and we exist to make real-world, long-term change that combats harmful misinformation and improves the support available to refugees, asylum seekers, and other migrants in vulnerable situations. During this exhibition, we will be accepting donations and selling our tees – each of our tees feature a design created by artists who are themselves refugees or have a background in forced migration. All of our products act as a visual display of solidarity with forcibly displaced people, as well as enabling us to provide funding to NGOs who work with people living in refugee camps across Greece and beyond. For further information about SolidariTee, please find our website here.

We hope that this Refugee Week Art Exhibition encourages you to extend your kindness and hospitality beyond your own home, making for a more welcoming community that ensures all our neighbours – new and familiar – have safe and welcoming homes.
