Symphony of Transition: Resettlement Narratives
Refugee Week is the world’s largest arts & culture festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of refugees and people seeking sanctuary. It is held annually on the week that falls on the 20th of June: World Refugee Day. This year, we will come together over a traditional Ethiopian-Eritrean Coffee Ceremony in a small, intimate setting to hear the stories of four refugees of African heritage.
Through open and conversational dialogue, we will foster an inclusive atmosphere that encourages meaningful connections and a deeper understanding of one another. This unique gathering embraces the beauty of diversity by celebrating both the commonalities and the unique experiences that have shaped their journeys. Coffee is served in three courses, with each course focusing on different aspects of resettlement.
The event will centre around the stories of our speakers, although we will also invite contributions from the audience. We especially welcome people who wish to learn more about Afro-British culture, who have an interest in advocating for a fairer asylum system in the UK, and who have their own experiences of displacement.
Doors open at 18:30. Tickets are free, but there is limited availability.
Decaf coffee will also be served and alternative hot drinks will be made available.
Please be aware that the content of the conversation may feature themes of a sensitive nature.
The event will be recorded and photographed. If you do not wish to appear, please let the organisers know in advance by emailing enquires@resettlement.org.uk.
