Thinking minds

We will form groups around a table discussing a book or article related to refugee week. The book or article which will be certainly related to refugees will be decided with the collaboration of HRS and refugee week organisation. We would like to create two groups of 8 people. We prefer small group to create more intimate conversations. The goal is to foster meaningful conversations, encourage critical thinking, and deepen participants’ understanding and appreciation of the problems of refugees.

The programme flow is as follows

1. Introduction:
– Start by introducing the purpose of the event and the book that will be discussed.
– Provide a brief overview of the book/article’s title, author, genre, and any relevant background information.
– Set the tone for an open and respectful discussion.

2. Guided Discussion:
– Facilitate a guided discussion by preparing a set of open-ended questions related to the book.
– Pose the questions to the group one by one, allowing participants to share their thoughts and insights.
– Encourage participants to build on each other’s ideas and engage in a thoughtful conversation.

3. Main points to increase involvement of all participants :
– Assign specific discussion topics or chapters of the book to each group.
– Provide guiding questions to stimulate discussion within the groups.
– Allow participants to explore their assigned topics in depth and encourage active participation.

 

4. Open Discussion:
– Open the floor for a free-flowing discussion where participants can share their own perspectives, ask questions, or raise new topics related to the book.
– Encourage respectful debate, active listening, and the exchange of diverse viewpoints.
– Create a welcoming environment where participants feel comfortable expressing their opinions.

5. Author’s Intent and Impact:
– Stimulate a discussion about the author’s intent and the impact of the book on readers.
– Encourage participants to analyze the book’s themes, messages, and how they relate to broader societal issues or personal experiences.
– Explore how the book resonates with participants and how it may have influenced their thinking.

6. Closing Remarks:
– Wrap up the discussion event by summarizing the key points raised during the discussion.
– Allow participants to share any final thoughts or reflections on the book and the discussion.
– Provide recommendations for further reading or related books that participants might find interesting.
