Happy+People+Group

Part of Migration Matters Festival

A photographic exhibition about the experiences of Sheffield by young migrants.

In the exhibition, we will display the photographs taken by the young people from the Happy Group during a series of art workshops run during the ESRC funded project “Everyday Bordering in the UK:

The impact on social care practitioners and the migrant families with whom they work”.
“Happy Group” is Chilypep's youth project for refugee, asylum seeking and newly arrived young people. Happy Group has been running in Sheffield since 2019 and is the only youth group specifically aimed at young refugees in the city. The photographs will be displayed with the young artists' descriptions/commentary on the photos.

The aim of the exhibition is to create a space in which the young people can express their experiences of the two sides of Sheffield and, also, to provide an opportunity for the young people attending the “Happy Group” to tell their stories and have their voices heard.
