Bradford for Everyone
Bradford’s ready to show and share just why we are a City, Local Authority, and University of Sanctuary during our biggest and best Refugee Week so far.
From 16th to 26th of June there is a feast of family fun, opportunities to learn and make friends, and the chance to walk the Exhibition Trail featuring artwork from 7 differing groups. An amazing 27 events organized across the entire District, and that’s not counting the daily dose of 8 brilliant locally made films being served up on the Big Screen on Centenary Square at 3pm Monday 20th to Sunday 26th.
We kick off with Bradford and Shipley Trades Union Council campaigning against the restrictions preventing Asylum Seekers from working and end up 10 days later with a community football tournament as part of the Great Get Together in Peel Park.
Bradford for Everyone supported Artworks Creative Communities to run a small grants scheme to support and encourage local groups to participate in RW22. This has been a great success enabling more involvement and activities from training to arts and craft parties, puppet making to seed planting, community BBQs to allotment gatherings, school creative projects to specific meetings about aspects of refugee experience.
The purpose of Refugee Week is to raise awareness of refugee experience and issues both locally and globally, to express and celebrate refugee contribution to Bradford currently and historically, and to campaign for a less hostile environment.
This year there is more activity and events than ever before – spread over the entire week and District. There are invitations you will not be able to resist and opportunities that you will not regret seizing. All RW22 events are free and inclusive.
