SEAS, The LGBTQ Ledward Centre, the BMECP and Sanctuary On Sea are pleased to present Brighton’s Refugee Week Event “We cannot walk alone” and the opening of the exhibition “News for Nowhere”.
2pm: The event will start with a socially distanced procession and public art intervention through central Brighton. Meet at the Dome ticket office. It will include viewing the exhibition in person at The Ledward Centre (TLC), participating in the creation of a large outdoor street art work there.
3-4:30pm: The procession will end at 3:30pm at the Black and Ethnic Minority Community Partnership (BMECP) where participants will have exclusive opportunity to view the large room installation "Message in a bottle", by Jane Lancashire and Gil Mualem-Doron. This is pending covid restrictions and spaces for this part will be limited.
5-6:30: pm the event will go online with artists' presentations, poetry and live music. This will include artist talks by Matilda Della Torre, Jane Lancashire, Alqumit Alhamad, a presentation by SOGICA LGBT-Asylum Seekers research group (Sussex University), poetry reading by Rami Yasir and a music performance by Bashir Al Gamar and more. The event will be chaired by Sanctuary On Sea chair, Richard Williams and SEAS' director Gil Mualem-Doron and with the participation of other local organisations.
This event is free and people are welcome to join for any or all parts. A link to the Zoom event will be sent to everyone who reserves a ticket beforehand.
