Have you ever translated a poem? The Poetry Society's Young Poets Network has teamed up with Modern Poetry in Translation to challenge young people worldwide to do just that.

As MPT editor Clare Pollard writes, "I think there are few better ways to really listen to another person, to really spend time with their voice and their words, than by translating a poem. So, in honour of Refugee Week, I’d like you to try and translate this poem by Suhrab Sirat, a poet, writer and journalist from Balkh Province of Afghanistan who moved to the UK in 2014."

You don't need any experience of translation, or of Persian, to take part - we have a bridge translation in English by the poet himself, as well as lots of notes and tips to get you started. It's totally free to take part, and the winning translation will be published in MPT alongside some of the leading poets and translators of the world. Top translations will also be published on Young Poets Network and receive prizes including books, an exclusive YPN notebook and more.

Plus - we're also running a free, online translation workshop with Clare over Zoom on Tuesday 14 July. You'll be exploring poetry translation generally and creating a group translation of a different poem, and there's absolutely no previous experience required. Follow the link to find out more!
