Singing in Newcastle for #RefugeeWeek2022
We meet in the centre of Newcastle each year during Refugee Week, to celebrate and show support for refugees and people seeking asylum. It seems more poignant and important than ever this year. When we meet, we sing one catchy, but thoughtful, song several times over, for around 30 minutes. The song is easy to pick up on the day!
We meet at the monument. Once everyone has arrived, we either sing there, or find a nearby spot.
The dates this year are:
Monday 20th June. Meet 4.15pm, sing from around 4.30
Wednesday 22nd June. Meet 4.15pm, sing from around 4.30
Saturday 25th June. Meet 10.45am, sing from around 11
You don't need to be available for all dates - just come to those that you can!. And if singing is not for you, but you would like to support, please feel free to join us.
Placards in support of refugees and asylum seekers are very welcome, too.
There's a link below to a short excerpt of the song, just to give a feel of it. There's no need to download it - I'll bring printed lyrics down each day, and we'll have a guitar and backing track to sing along with, too.
Thanks so much for your interest and support. Please feel free to share with anyone who might want to join us!
