We celebrate South Korea joining the international Refugee Week coalition!
We knew it was going to be a cracking year when we were contacted by Youngah Kim at NANCEN (Refugee Center for Refugee Rights in South Korea) to advise us that they were setting up 난민주간 – or ‘Korea Refugee Week’.
Refugee Week South Korea was launched in Soeul Square on 16th June 2013. Artist and architect The team over in Korea made the decision to use the international Refugee Week logo and they also commissioned artists and architect Jangwon Choi to create an art installation for the Square that would reflect the logo. Refugee Week South Korea Co-ordinator Youngah Kim, who works at NANCEN(Refugee Center for Refugee Rights in S. Korea), said: “We hope this logo connects us in different part of the world”.
Refugee Week South Korea sent us a short film to give us a glimpse of Jangwon Choi’s brilliant work, and it also shares their thinking behind their theme for 2013: “Refugees: One of Us” – Watch it here!
Refugee Week UK and Simple Acts celebrated World Refugee Day at Jubilee School in Hackney, London, where we sent Refugee Week South Korea a short video message!
Please support Refugee Week to continue to grow internationally. Keep in touch with Refugee Week activity around the world and keep us in touch with the work that is being done near you- letting us know how we might be able to support.
