Movement is a powerful way to bring people together and connect with our bodies.

Whether it’s through sports, walking, or dancing, getting active is more than just breaking a sweat – it’s about connecting with others and building community.

When we move together, we share experiences, make memories and create spaces where everyone belongs.

This Refugee Week, let’s get active and celebrate community as a superpower!

Ways to Get Active and Build Community:

  • Walk Together: Organise a walk with friends, neighbours, or strangers. Walking creates space to connect, reflect, and support one another. Want to take it one step further? How about walking a symbolic distance or get creative with the shape of your walk?
  • Host a Friendly Match: Organise a sports game in your local park or centre and bring people together
  • Try a New Activity: Join a dance class, try ice skating, rock climbing, or explore parkour. New experiences can spark new friendships.
  • Join a Park Run or Charity Walk: Participate in or organise a community event that raises awareness and builds connections.
  • Partner with Refugee Groups: Team up with local refugee organisations to host a sports days or event.

One Step Further:

  • Welcoming Fitness Spaces: Advocate for free or low-cost sessions for refugees at gyms or leisure centres, offering a space for connection and healing. Or, if you run a sports venue how can you create an open environment for people from all backgrounds to feel at home?
