Sharing food is one of the most beautiful ways to connect. It’s a universal language that says we are neighbours, friends, and chosen family. Food heals, celebrates cultures, and builds community.

You can exchange recipes, teach each other dishes, and most importantly, share meals that foster meaningful connections. Let’s celebrate Community as a Superpower by bringing people to the table.

🍽 Quick & Easy Ways to Take Part:

  • Recipe Swap: Share a favourite family recipe with someone, or create a recipe exchange at work or with friends.
  • Learn a New Dish: Try cooking a meal from a culture you’re less familiar with. Dive deeper and discover the incredible migratory journeys of ingredients and recipes throughout history.
  • Bake a Loaf: Explore how bread recipes have traveled and evolved across the world due to migration and cultural exchange.
  • Potluck Gatherings: Organise a potluck where everyone brings a dish that tells a story. It’s a simple way to celebrate different cuisines and foster community through delicious food.
  • Cooking Events & Classes: Host or join a Refugee Week cooking event or class. Check out What’s On and search under ‘Food and Drink.’

🍲 Take It a Step Further:

  • Restaurants & Cafés: Work in hospitality? Introduce a Refugee Week special inspired by one of your staff member’s home recipes. Use it as a conversation starter for guests to learn about their story.
  • Community Engagement: With many living in temporary accommodation without access to a kitchen, local cafés, restaurants, and food banks are vital places of connection. Could you partner with your local community to provide meals or host events?
