Refugee Week is a community-powered festival which means everyone is invited to take part. Together we all make Refugee Week happen.
In 2023 there were over 9,500 events & activities and over 1 million people took part. Events and activities can be as large scale as a city-wide festival or as easy as a single simple act.
Types of events and activities include everything from film screenings, to solidarity walks, meals, performances, talks & discussions, exhibitions, podcast episodes, school events and so much more!
So, whether you have 5 minutes or 5 months to prepare how you take part, the possibilities are endless.
Find out more on how you can take part below.
One fantastic way to take part in Refugee Week is to organise your own event or activity. Everyone is invited whether you’re an individual, a school, a charity, a business, group or other. What you organise is completely up to you. Events can be large scale, city-wide festivals or even a meet up over a cup of tea.
Simple Acts are simple, everyday actions we can all do to stand in solidarity with refugees and make new connections in our communities. Whether you build your own event or activity around a Simple Act or simply take part during Refugee Week, you’ll be part of a movement of people everywhere taking small steps to create a big change.
There are so many ways to take part in Refugee Week whether you have 5 minutes or 5 months to prepare. To start planning your event or activity, feel free to use our free packs for Event Organisers, Children & Young People and Social Media – and get involved!
We are so excited to announce the Refugee Week Film programme curated by Other Cinemas exploring themes of Our Home. The majority of these short films and feature length films can be watched globally for free either at home or used for a community screening. No need to get rights or licensing, we have arranged these for the duration of Refugee Week. Find out more.
