Refugee Week is a growing global movement, and we are excited to welcome five new sister festivals this year.
Here’s a taster of what’s happening for Refugee Week 2022 around the world, 20-26 June.
REFUGEE WEEK AUSTRALIA
Refugee Week originated in Australia, where it has been running since 1986. Coordinated by Refugee Council of Australia. This year the festival shares the theme of ‘Healing’, and people are invited to take part by watching a film, reading a book or joining one of over 100 events across the country, including exhibitions, film screenings, food events, talks, walks and community celebrations.

New festivals for 2022:
REFUGEE WEEK GREECE
Refugee Week Greece is a community-led cultural festival celebrating the contributions, creativity and resilience of people who have been forced to flee. Brought to Greece by Athens Comics Library in collaboration with Counterpoints Arts, Refugee Week Greece 2022 celebrates the theme of ‘Healing’ and will see local authorities, non-governmental organisations, grassroots groups and communities across Greece hosting over 65 events in 14 towns and cities. Events include music, film, skateboarding, art exhibitions, yoga, football, stand up comedy and the opportunity to create a collective comic book on healing.

REFUGEE WEEK MALTA
Coordinated by Dance Beyond Borders, Refugee Week in Malta aims to create and hold much-needed spaces for conversations around the experiences of displacement
within Maltese communities. The festival kicks off with a celebratory ‘March for Peace’ on 20 June, and events include film, dance, music, exhibitions.

REFUGEE WEEK HONG KONG
Grassroots Future and other Hong Kong NGOs are organising the first Refugee Week Hong Kong with the aim of connecting the public with the city’s community of refugees and asylum seekers. Events include poetry, a photography competition, virtual cookalong and exhibitions.

REFUGEE WEEK TAIWAN
Refugee Week Taiwan carries the theme ‘Healing: The power of community’. Members of the public are invited to join a series of online events to explore migration and refugee issues in the Taiwanese context.
REFUGEE WEEK BERLIN
Programme includes film screenings, a workshop on anti-racism, arts and the environment and spaces for conversation, sharing and networking. Refugee Week Berlin is part of the three-year programme Across Borders by Counterpoints Arts in the UK, Germany and Greece, in collaboration with local partners.
